Epworth is within a short drive to numerous state and private parks and preserves for rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, swimming, boating, and horseback riding. There are numerous antique and specialty shops in High Falls and Stone Ridge, as well as shopping in Kingston. Public transportation by bus is 5 minutes away in Rosendale and by train 30 minutes in Rhinecliffe, across the river from Kingston.

Epworth Camp and Retreat Center is owned and operated by the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and is a nonprofit organization.
